A Surprising First Trip to Brunei

I recently got back from Bandar Seri Begawan or BSB, the capital of Brunei Darussalam. Prior to leaving for this trip, I had really next-to-no expectations because of the reviews I read online - boring, nothing to do, crappy airport - which I'm very much thankful for because I experienced the total opposite during my short stay there. For one, the relatively small airport was newly renovated so it was a pleasant experience there. The city was clean, safe and there didn't seem to be any hint of poverty. Apparently each household owned a car because car prices and especially gas prices were low (one quarter of what it is in Manila for diesel). I discovered lots of unique street food and a thriving foodie community in the relatively unknown Gadong Night Market which was one of the highlights of my trip. We also stayed at a spectacular property which offered the best service, the Capital Residence Suites. Lastly, don't get me started on the stunning Muslim architecture. For a religion that's often misunderstood, their places of worship are enticing and quite inviting.

I will post an itinerary about Brunei soon because after this pre-trip-trip, I am now preparing for my main trip-trip to two fun destinations! For now, enjoy these (self-proclaimed) magnificent photos of Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque. :)
